OUR METHODIST HERITAGE

Our Methodist heritage goes back to the year 1784. In that year, Lovely Lane Church of Baltimore , Maryland , became the “mother” church of the Methodist Denomination.

Over 200 years ago, 64 men rode horse back for days and weeks to meet at Lovely Lane Church. By contrast, over 1,000 delegates now attend General Conference held every four years in a selected U.S. city.

The General Conference is the law making body of the United Methodist Church . Its purpose is to refine the Book of Discipline  by revision and/or addition.

Faith United Methodist Church of Newark , Ohio , not only follows the United Methodist Book of Discipline  but also adheres to the John Wesley beliefs of worship in the Methodist Denomination.

Faith United Methodist Church joined the Methodist Denomination following the 1968 merger of the United Brethren and Methodist churches in Dallas , Texas .
